One of the Most Popular Hockey Players of All Time

When you think about great hockey players, the name that comes to mind most frequently is probably Wayne Gretzky. Although currently retired, the 47-year-old Canadian remains active in the sport of hockey.

Growing up in Ontario, Canada, Wayne Gretzky was always a head above the rest when it came to playing hockey. His father always told him to “skate to where the puck is going, not to where it has been.” At only six-years-old, Gretzky was already skating with kids nearly twice his age. By the time he was a little older, he was already scoring close to four hundred goals in one season. Wayne Gretzky has live his life almost entirely in the spot light.

At the time of his retirement in 1999, Wayne Gretzky had forty records for a regular season, fifteen records for playoffs and six records in the NHL All Stars Game. Gretzky is the only player in the NHL to ever score more than two hundred points in a single season, which he managed to do four times. It is no surprise that when he retired, he was instantaneously entered in the Hockey Hall of Fame as the “greatest hockey player of all time.”
