Hockey is one of the most popular games for males almost of all ages, economical backgrounds and working spheres; and just like those who also love soccer or football, they tend to neglect their female companions, spouses, girlfriends and lovers to go to a game.

Women do not like to be disregarded in favor of a game that will report little to nothing to the viewer; of course, rooting for his favorite team alongside with his friends, a couple of snacks and an almost endless sum of beer might seem appealing. However, at the end of the night, undoubtedly, they will come to their female companions searching for their love and care.

Accounts of female companions that resent and even act in vengeance against their male friends for this particular reason are countless; therefore, it is in the best interest of the hockey fan to share his passion with his not-so-passionate-for-hockey female friend. The first thing that any male should do is present her with a tutoring course on hockey, being able to understand the game will give them plenty of time to share.

But tutoring her means a lot more than just explaining the game to her; he has to be patient and fun, otherwise she will close shut and will refuse to participate with him in any other hockey related activities, thus exacerbating her animosity towards hockey.

When you think about great hockey players, the name that comes to mind most frequently is probably Wayne Gretzky. Although currently retired, the 47-year-old Canadian remains active in the sport of hockey.

Growing up in Ontario, Canada, Wayne Gretzky was always a head above the rest when it came to playing hockey. His father always told him to “skate to where the puck is going, not to where it has been.” At only six-years-old, Gretzky was already skating with kids nearly twice his age. By the time he was a little older, he was already scoring close to four hundred goals in one season. Wayne Gretzky has live his life almost entirely in the spot light.

At the time of his retirement in 1999, Wayne Gretzky had forty records for a regular season, fifteen records for playoffs and six records in the NHL All Stars Game. Gretzky is the only player in the NHL to ever score more than two hundred points in a single season, which he managed to do four times. It is no surprise that when he retired, he was instantaneously entered in the Hockey Hall of Fame as the “greatest hockey player of all time.”

I bet you think you know hockey. Did you know that there are many different types of hockey?

Field Hockey takes place on gravel, grass, or turf. This form of hockey is played with a small, hard ball. Field Hockey uses a J-shaped hockey stick.

Ice Hockey is played on ice with a three-inch puck made of vulcanized rubber and an L-shaped stick.

Road Hockey, sometimes called Street Hockey, is played the same way as ice hockey, just on the street. In Street Hockey, instead of a puck, a ball is used.

Inline Roller Hockey is like Ice Hockey on a dry rink wearing inline skates.

Quad Roller Hockey has been around since before inline skates. Therefore, Quad Roller Hockey is the same as Inline Roller Hockey with the older four-wheeled skates.

Unicycle Hockey is, you guessed it, played while riding unicycles. It is other wise like Roller Hockey and played with a ball.

There are also many forms of lesser know hockey. To name a few:

Ball Hockey

Air Hockey

Bandy

Beach Hockey

Broomball

Bubble Hockey

Floorball

Foot Hockey

Gym Hockey

Hurling

Camogie

Indoor Field Hockey

Mini Hockey

Power Hockey

Ringette

Rinkball

Rossall Hockey

Shinny

Shinty

Skater Hockey

Spongee

Table Hockey

Underwater Hockey

Nok Hockey

Amateur hockey in North America uses the USA Hockey and Hockey Canada rulebooks. Professional leagues use the International Ice Hockey Federation rulebook.

Most of the North American professional leagues get their rules from the National Hockey League, which has its own rulebook. Colleges use the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The National Federation of State High School Association rulebook is used by high schools.

These organizations have their own rule meetings. They also hold a conference so changes that affect the game can be changed. Amateur hockey leagues change rules to make the game better to play. Professional hockey leagues change rules to make the game better to watch.

USA Hockey and Hockey Canada rulebooks are different from others on technical concerns. The International Ice Hockey Federation rulebook calls for a rink with different dimensions than the others. Changes in rules are easier for the National Hockey League because it is a smaller league.

Many people today think that if the current rules were more strongly applied, rule changes would not be necessary.

Ice Hockey is just hockey in the US and Canada. It is a team sport that takes place at an ice rink. Ice Hockey is most popular in the colder regions. In Canada, it is the national winter sport. It is the most popular sport in Finland as well.

It is believed that the word hockey comes either from the Old French hoquet meaning shepard’s crook, or from the Middle Dutch word for shack or doghouse hokkie.

Drawings of Egyptians playing hockey date back to 4000 years ago. People playing ice hockey have also been depicted in Dutch paintings from the 17th century.

Several different types of hockey came over with European immigrants. Hockey-like games such as hurling from the Irish, shinty from the Scottish and field hockey from England were adapted for icy conditions, thus ice hockey is born.

The structure for the modern game of hockey came from Montreal. The first club for ice hockey was founded in 1877, called McGill University Hockey Club. The sport fast became fashionable. The first “world championship” took place in Montreal in 1883.

The first professional hockey came from Houghton, Michigan and quickly spread to Canada, Switzerland, the Ukraine, Great Britain and Austria.
